Meet the Team

Our dedicated team at Rattle Stone Farm is passionate about sustainable farming practices and providing fresh, organic produce to our community.

Owner

Geoff Post

Rattlestone (ˈrætlstoÊŠn’): is a nickname a/k/a a particularly rare and mystic fist-sized rock formation indigenous to our beloved farm. It is known in geological syntax as Sewanee Conglomerate, which is a unique fusion of Appalachian coal, Cumberland Plateau iron ore, rose quartz, and sandstone into a not-of-this-world adhesion of something resembling a meteorite, fantastic in texture, feel, and appearance generally propelling one’s imagination and psych into a feeling of awe. It is this sent of awe a result of the energy in coal, the permanence of iron, the spirit of the crystalline quartz, and the elemental foundation of earth in sand that we hope our Rattlestone Farm brings to your palate, senses, and life. Enjoy, savor, and rejoice in Rattlestone’s bounty, a true labor of love and life. So why Rattlestone? It turns out that rattlestones reach the surface of earth having been formed millennia ago deep within the Earth’s core and is exposed to life’s regenerating elements – sun, water, and soil. A cavity will form within the stone creating a hollow where the inner core has dissolved freeing iron nodules creating a mysterious, magical, spiritual, and delightful rattle. Yes, if one gently shakes rattlestone, it produces a crisp, clarion bell-like ring or rattle. It is this metaphoric voice of the stone of our home, planet earth, which is the essence of our farm and its bounty – Rattlestone Farm and Rattlestone Beef. Enjoy!

Operations / Head Director

Alex Farrar

Alex spent his youth on a family farm in rural Mississippi, where they focused on horses, cattle, and intensive gardening. This early exposure instilled in him a deep passion for agriculture, leading him to pursue it as a career. After high school, Alex took his enthusiasm further by studying agriculture at Mississippi State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Animal and Dairy Science with a focus on veterinary science. During college, he began working in thelivestock pharmaceutical industry, a field he continued to develop professionally after graduation. As a pharmaceutical representative, Alex studied parasitology to help producers optimize forage-based systems for better efficiency. After several years in the livestock pharmaceutical industry, Alex shifted his focus to regenerative and sustainable agriculture. He relocated with his family to Sewanee and dedicated himself to transforming the family farm from a traditional beef system to a regenerative model. His passion for learning has been instrumental in refining managementpractices, enhancing biodiversity, and improving agricultural marketing. Believing that locally sourced beef is the best beef, Alex has designed a management model to produce a premium, highly palatable product while maintaining ecological sustainability. He enjoys working alongside his partner, Allison, and their daughter, Remi, to grow their business and explore new products and markets. They all live on the farm with their pack of dogs: Kujo, Baku, Jambalaya, and Genghis.
